Should You Use Apple Boot Camp?
Apple's personal computers have lagged behind
Microsoft's sales because of the scarcity of native
programs available to run on Mac operating systems.
Nearly 90% of software and computer games are programmed
for Windows operating systems exclusively, meaning that
Mac owners have traditionally either had to wait for a
translation or purchase some imitation type product
running on their operating system. The ideal key to an
Apple user who is interested in running PC-native
programs is an application called Apple Boot Camp, an
ingenious start-up that allows wholesale usage of
Windows operations by using Microsoft's systems on an
Apple computer.
Boot Camp is not a modification but a true cross-over
that runs a form of Windows on a Mac: users must
purchase a Windows operating system as well to install
on their Apple computer. While there are some programs
that simulate Mac Boot Camp capabilities (and also allow
Windows users to run an Apple operating system on their
PC in turn), Boot Camp itself remains the gold standard
of the computing industry. No other crossover
applications run as smooth or with as few complications
in loading or frame rates compared to Apple's own.
Apple Boot Camp allows a user to run through all the
set-up features of loading a Windows-native system. It
offers help throughout for users who need to transfer
files or have little experience with PC programming. Any
operating system will be run at the Mac's native specs,
meaning that advanced Windows programs will not be able
to load on older Apple computers. The program
automatically loads specs that PC users have come to
expect standard, such as user memory and shortcuts, so
that the only difference between a Mac Boot Camp user
and a PC user is the size and color of their computer
and keyboard.
This is not to say that all Apple Boot Camp users have
been happy with the product. There are some drawbacks to
loading PC-native operations, namely that they will not
transfer any information over to the Apple operating
system. Information you have saved on one system must be
retrieved in the same manner. It cannot be integrated
into Apple's programs, so you have to install any
software you have already installed on the native side
of the computer. It is difficult for multiple partitions
to be used in sync and Mac Boot Camp must be run on
Intel-based Apple computers.
The Boot Camp assistant and the Boot Camp program are
part of one inclusive program. They offer a native Mac
user the chance to experience his or her favorite PC
programming on their own computer. You can separate a
hard drive between PC and Mac operations, making it easy
to decide what information will be stored on what "side"
of your computer. What's more, if you decide to
un-install Apple Boot Camp, the system will assist you
in recovering files or information that you want to keep
on Apple's operating system. If you want to run
PC-native applications on an Apple computer, there is no
better means than Mac Boot Camp.
