Run Windows On Mac
In the
past, if you needed to run windows and you owned a Mac,
the only way, was to purchase a new computer and install
the windows. The previous Mac OS could not allow you to
run windows on Mac, but with the new Mac OS 10.5 you can
run Linux or windows on Mac.
The new Mac 10.5 runs like any other standard windows
computer and Mac allows you two choices for running
windows. You can run windows OS allowing you to boot Mac
or you can boot with Mac OS and run windows within Mac
OS.
There are few ways to run windows
on Mac
1. Dual boot
This is an apple application which converts your Mac
laptop into a dual boot laptop; this application is part
of Mac OS 10.5. To achieve this conversion you will need
the Mac OS 10.5 installer DVD. Dual-booting means
installing more than one operating system installed in
your Mac, so when you’re Mac boots, it asks which OS you
want to use.
The installation process of the windows OS in a Mac
begins when you run the boot-camp assistant application
present in the utilities. After running it, click a
button on the opening-screen which allows you to print
the windows installation instructions. Irrespective of
how experienced you are in installing windows, it’s
advisable to print, as you will need to consult during
the early windows installation stages.
Specify more hard disk space than the 5 GB default
space, up to 32 GB minimum is good. If you plan to use
the windows for a specific amount of work then you will
need to allocate more space. Ensure that you have your
windows installation disk with you, and when the Mac OS
has restarted it will ask you to insert and install the
windows OS. Once the installation process has ended,
remove the windows OS installation disk and insert the
Mac OS disk, and windows will install the apples drivers
for track pad, camera sound, Mac’s video and many other
feature automatically. If it does not start
automatically, right click on the DVD icon then select
explore from the pop-up window and finally double click
the setup.exe to install by hand.
After installing restart the windows OS and run the
updates for windows and apple software update-utility
installed automatically from the Mac OS 10.5 installer.
2. Virtualization
This powerful application allows using of
application form both windows and Mac platforms. The
ability of changing from apple PC to Intel CPU made it
possible for you to run windows on Mac. There are four
virtualization options including virtual box, VMWare
fusion and parallels windows.
When installing windows open the parallel desktop and
click file then new, then select the windows version you
are using the click the express windows and include all
the required details as it will be prompted.
Choose the Virtual Machine name sharing location and
location on the name & location screen, sharing of the
folders or home folder between windows and Mac OS allows
spreading of windows files into the Mac OS.
Finally, select create to begin windows installation,
after finishing installation boot windows and then click
on virtual machine and then install all the parallel
tools from parallels menu. This will install the drivers
needed to assist the integration between windows and
Mac.
3. Virtual computing
This allows an individual to run windows on
Mac; this allows your Mac OS to host windows. Apple has
been doing this with Mac OS 9 or known as classic. The
Mac options for virtual computing include Guest PC, Q,
Parallel Desktop and virtual PC. Of all the options,
parallels desktop was developed in Intel Mac, while the
others run on power-PC Macs. Microsoft has added the
virtual computing solution with Virtual PC, which allows
connection between windows and Mac OS successfully.
Virtual computing on power-PC Mac means emulation of the
Pentium processor. This causes the Mac to slow down and
use all the virtual computing solutions. Of all the
virtual computing tools none is fast, but they slow down
the Mac computer.
Another over looked virtual computing method to run
windows on Mac is-if you have a windows server use thin
client computing. In an environment with booming thin
client computing, this is an excellent means to share
both windows OS and Mac OS.
